About me

Hello I'm Ryan Christoffersen and I am a Play-By-Play Broadcaster with experience in other areas of sports media as well. As a Play-By-Play Broadcaster I have worked on basketball, baseball, volleyball, and hockey events. Ever since the 2017-2018 sports season I have served as the primary Play-By-Play Broadcaster for Illinois Tech Men's and Women's basketball, as well as baseball and both Men's and Women's volleyball. During this same time I have been the primary radio voice of University of Chicago Men's and Women's basketball, as well as the primary voice for Women's Volleyball and sharing the baseball Play-By-Play role. In December 2018, I served as the primary voice for the Hinsdale South Holiday Classic, a prestigious basketball tournament featuring some of the best high school programs in the state of Illinois.

As for non Play-By-Play work, well I have done a little bit of everything. While admittedly being rather new to the sports media game, since 2016 I have packed a lot of experience into that time. Starting from the beginning, I worked two seasons with and for the Beloit Snappers, a Minor League baseball affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. I took on a variety of different roles during that time, working as an Official Scorer/Scoreboard Operator, a Stat Stringer working with MiLB Advanced Media, and as a PITCHf/x Operator working in conjunction with the team and Sportvision. I also covered the team as the team correspondent for the Oakland Athletics prospect website Athletics Farm. In that role I was able to write a recurring column named "Snappy Thoughts", write features, conduct coach and player interviews, and take photos and pictures from the stadium to be shared on social media.

I took the next step in my sports media career when I enrolled at the Illinois Media School. My audio and video editing were finely honed, and I was able to learn how to host, produce, and run a board for a radio show on the school's internet sports station, chicagolandsportsradio.com. I hosted a number of different shows, both general sports show and sports specific shows, while also expanding to a show revolving more around entertainment and pop culture. With these shows I was also the person booking guests and going out to different locations to interview athletes, writers, musicians, actors, and comedians in person.

Last but not least are some of the other great projects I have worked on. I co-hosted a low-budget streaming sports show, aptly named "The Sports Show" in the fall of 2018 that helped teach me more about a video production and how to structure and show. I also co-hosted a baseball podcast named "The Mendoza Line". My co-host is a Chicago-trained Comedian and we mixed in a lot of comedy with interesting baseball analysis and some fake interviews meant to be humorous as well. This taught me a lot about how podcasts work nowadays and how to structure a podcast.

That is most of what I have done these last few years! I have always had the passion to work in the sports field, but I did not always have the confidence and resources to properly pursue what I have always wanted to do. Now I absolutely believe I have the confidence, determination, the work ethic, and the talent to make a career in the sports media field.
